Essex Year of Reading

Brand campaign

The Essex Year of Reading was a countywide campaign created to help children and young people discover a lifelong love of reading and ensure every Essex child can read at their age level or better. Aimed at parents and carers who wanted to support their child on their reading adventure, young people looking for inspiration, or adults keen to rediscover the joy of reading. It was delivered through schools, colleges, libraries and venues across the county with scheduled events and activities throughout the year, including competitions to encourage the people of Essex to become authors, poets, illustrators and photographers.

The campaign identity takes inspiration from the types of books available, using a different typefaces to represent and express the personality of the different genres – fiction, non-fiction, drama, poetry, folktale, children’s books; while the strapline ‘Where will your book take you?’ invites you to actively become a participant.

Where possible photography was county specific with popular locations being used to showcase the activities being promoted.
