Essex Year of Reading

Brand campaign

Objective
Essex Year of Reading was a year-long programme of activities by the Essex Education Task Force (EETF) and its partners.

The campaign was created to help deliver the Task Force’s aim to ensure that every Essex child leaves school able to read at their age level or better. Research shows that reading confidently is the golden key to being a successful learner, and the campaign seeked to ensure that every child across Essex has access to the tools and resources needed to achieve this.

It included a series of meaningful events, exhibitions, projects and curated opportunities for every Essex resident to encounter in some way.

Solution
The campaign identity uses a variety of typefaces to highlight and represent the different characteristics and genres of books – fiction, non-fiction, drama, poetry, folk-tale and children’s.

Seeking to engage, stimulate and inspire children and adults at every level of participation. Priority areas of focus were split into education and skills, parents and families and general public community engagement. While the strapline ‘Where will your book take you?’ underpinned the photography brief, copy writing and messaging.
